The recreation ground:
The past decade has seen a lot of input and development of the facilities in our treasured rec. A new pavilion was built with help from the Public Works Loan Scheme, and the football pitches are home to Merriott Rovers FC, and the youth team, Merriott Dynamos. The Rec is also home to an adult outdoor gym, a wonderful children’s play area and we even have two hard surface tennis courts for public use. From January 2021 the Rec will be a single use plastic desert – they are banned from the area in accordance with our environment and health policies. There are plenty of bins around the rec, and there is drinking water available in the pavilion for when we can get back to more normal times.
Future projects for the Rec include solar panels for the pavilion roof; a new water treatment plant; a children’s outdoor gym and possibly a skate park. There is also a planting scheme currently under discussion to improve the boundaries.
